UCSF Student Surgery Groups

The Muriel Steele Society - Medical Student Committee

MSS is an inclusive community dedicated to inspiring, supporting, and promoting women surgeons so they can thrive at all stages of their careers. We are comprised of committees spanning numerous areas, work together seamlessly to promote wellness of members, provide mentorship across all levels of training from medical student to junior faculty, and to conduct research on issues that hamper progress towards gender parity and greater diversity in surgery. Our Medical Student Committee plans events for the medical student community to promote women interested in pursuing a career in surgery.

GSSA/CHESA

We are the UCSF chapter of the Global Surgery Student Alliance (GSSA), which is a national student-run global surgery working group for the United States in affiliation with the International Student Surgical Network (InciSioN).Our mission is to educate, inspire, and unite students through engagement and mentorship in global surgery, including anesthesia, OBGYN, and other related fields. One of the main goals of our organization is to serve as a bridge to faculty and residents working in the field of global surgery at UCSF and other institutions nationally and internationally. To that end, we are part of the Center for Global Surgery and Health Equity at UCSF, working as medical student representatives.
